The Petes: Old Market Quarters

Chickpete, Balepete, Avenue Road and the trading streets of the 1500s.

The pete area west of the old fort is Bengaluru's original commercial core and is still one of its busiest wholesale districts.

  • Chickpete: silk sarees, wedding textiles, gold
  • Balepete: bangles, trinkets and festival goods
  • Avenue Road: books, stationery and electrical goods
  • Cottonpete & Tharagupete: cotton, grain and wholesale trade
  • Nagarthpete: metalwork and the historic Dharmaraya Swamy temple, starting point of the annual Karaga procession

For a shopping guide to these streets see Chickpet & Avenue Road.
