The Dodda Basavana Gudi ("big bull temple") on Bull Temple Road houses a large monolithic Nandi, about 4.6 metres tall and 6 metres long, carved from a single granite rock. The temple is generally dated to Kempegowda's time in the mid-16th century.

The neighbourhood of Basavanagudi is named after it. Every November the area hosts the Kadalekai Parishe, a groundnut fair that began as an offering to the bull by farmers. See visiting the Bull Temple.
