The Four Kempegowda Towers

Watchtowers traditionally said to mark the limits of the old town.

Four small stone watchtowers stand at Lalbagh, Ulsoor Lake, Mekhri Circle and near Kempambudhi Lake in Gavipuram. They are traditionally attributed to Kempegowda II. The popular story is that they marked how far the city would grow. Historians note that the attribution and the "boundary" story are both traditional rather than documented.

The tower at Lalbagh, on top of the Lalbagh Rock, is the easiest to visit and gives one of the best free views in the south of the city.
